The other jumping competition of the evening was equally thrilling. In what turned into one of the highest calibre triple jump competitions ever, Spain’s Jordan Díaz Fortun won with a huge jump that moved him to third on the world’s all-time list.
The sprint superstars did not disappoint either: Norway’s Karsten Warholm and Dutch golden girl Femke Bol respectively took gold over 400m hurdles with championship records, whilst defending champion Mujinga Kambundji beat Britain’s Daryll Neita in a photo-finish to bring home another gold for the Swiss team.
Victoria Hudson made history in the women’s javelin competition by winning the first gold medal for Austria at the European Athletics Championships since 1971. A historical win in the decathlon as well, where Johannes Erm won only the second gold medal ever for Estonia at the European Athletics Championships.
