Cole Hocker won the 1500 meters in an incredible come-from-behind win, setting a new Olympic record.

Yared Nuguse came back from 10th and missed silver by one hundredth of a second, but his bronze marks the first time Team USA has two runners on the 1500 meters podium in 112 years.

Hocker finished in 3:27:65, catching Great Britain’s Josh Kerr, with his final strides, and beating his personal best by three seconds.

Hocker, a 23-year-old Indianapolis native, finished 6th in Tokyo. Nuguse was forced to pull from that race at the last minute with an injury.

Hobbs Kessler finished fifth. It’s the first time Team USA has had three runners in the 1500 meters since 1968.

Previous world champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway finished fourth.
