Waterfall Circle Hike - The Best Hike in East Iceland

Today we are hiking the Waterfall Circle Hike which is also known as the Laugarfell Loop. This is a beautiful hike that follows the Jökulsá í Fljótsdal river and passes by 8 waterfalls along the way. Hike Stats: 4.7 miles / 8 kilometers 849 ft. elevation change 2-3 hours to complete To get to the hike you have to take Road 910 to the Laugarfell Hut in the Eastern Highlands. It is a paved road so a 4x4 is not necessary. Once you arrive at Laugarfell you can start the hike in either direction by following the red trail markers. We hiked counterclockwise, but I would suggest clockwise for the best views. You will pass by 8 or more waterfalls, 3 of which are named: Faxi, Kirkjufoss, and Stuðlafoss. The trail can be muddy in some areas so make sure to have waterproof shoes. This was one of our favorite hikes in all of Iceland and it's a hidden gem without many people on the trail. At the end of the hike you can relax in the hot springs at Laugarfell and spend the night in the hut.
