Jumbo Ferries Princess Seaways & King Seaways (Amsterdam - Newcastle)
A film about the DFDS Ferries Princess Seaways and King Seaways in service on the route Amsterdam (Ijmuiden) - Newcastle in May 2023. In this film, we document the regular service provided by the two sister ships Princess Seaways and King Seaways on the ferry route between the Netherlands and Great Britain. The interior design of both ships will be shown, and we will also visit the bridge and engine rooms of the Princess Seaways. The Princess Seaways was built in 1986 as Peter Pan for the TT-Line shipping company for the Travemünde - Trelleborg route. On 2 June 1986, the Peter Pan made its maiden voyage from Travemünde to Trelleborg. Seven years later, on 31 August 1993, the ship made its last voyage between Trelleborg and Travemünde. In September 1993 the Peter Pan was handed over to the shipping company Transport of Tasmania and renamed Spirit of Tasmania. From November 1993 to September 2002 the Spirit of Tasmania was in service on the Devonport - Melbourne route. In November 2002 the ship was sold to the shipping company Fjord Line and renamed Fjord Norway. The Fjord Norway was operated from April 2003 on the route Bergen - Haugesund - Egersund - Hanstholm and from November 2005 on the route Bergen - Stavanger - Newcastle. In September 2006 the Fjord Norway was sold to the shipping company DFDS and renamed Princess of Norway. The Princess of Norway continued to operate on the route Bergen - Stavanger - Newcastle until May 2007. Since May 2007 the ship is in service on the route Newcastle - Ijmuiden. In February 2011 the ship was renamed Princess Seaways. The King Seaways was build in 1987 as Nils Holgersson on the Schichau Seebeckwerft Bremerhaven in Germany for the TT-Line route Trelleborg - Travemünde between Sweden and Germany. The Nils Holgersson began regular service between Trelleborg and Travemünde under the Swedish flag on 26 February 1987. In 1993, the ship was sold to the shipping company Brittany Ferries, rebuilt and renamed Val de Loire. The ship was used on the Plymouth - Santander route. In 2005, the Val de Loire was operated on the St Malo - Portsmouth and Cherbourg - Portsmouth routes. The shipping company DFDS bought the Val de Loire in 2005 and deployed it on the Ijmuiden - Newcastle route from 11 March 2006 under the name King of Scandinavia. In 2011, the ship was renamed King Seaways and continues to operate on the Ijmuiden - Newcastle route to this day. In March 2026, the King Seaways celebrated its 20th anniversary on the Amsterdam-Newcastle route.
