Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the two-time Olympic gold medalist and one of the greatest distance runners in history, has undergone Achilles surgery at Stanford Health Care in California, putting his entire 2026 season in serious doubt. The 25-year-old Norwegian star had been battling Achilles problems since April 2025, which led to a devastating 2025 World Championships in Tokyo where he failed to make the 1500m final for the first time in his career and finished 10th in the 5000m. After telling The Guardian in January 2026 that his Achilles was feeling "very good" and laying out plans for world record attempts, a sudden flare-up forced him to fly to the United States for surgery with Dr. Amol Saxena on February 6, 2026.
