Sweden has moved closer to joining the NATO alliance after the US Senate overwhelmingly approved its bid on August 3. With Sweden’s membership, NATO is set to gain an advantage over Russia as it will get access to Stockholm’s superior and high-tech military. Sweden has a laudable military industrial base that has produced weapons systems that are popular on the export market. For NATO, Sweden is a huge boost as the Nordic country can build impressive submarines that can take on any navy. The future deployment of Sweden's more advanced Blekinge submarine in the Baltic Sea is expected to complicate Russian anti-submarine warfare.
