US president-elect Donald Trump said on January 7, 2025, that he wants to annex Greenland as part of the United States. It was not the first time he had expressed interest in acquiring the world’s biggest island, which is an autonomous territory of Denmark. After Trump refused to rule out deploying the military to accomplish his goal, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman said Moscow would monitor developments closely.
