US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters on Thursday that Israel’s decision to revoke the accreditation of Norwegian diplomats is not “helpful”, citing Norway’s track record as a mediator between Israel and Palestinians.
Israel’s foreign ministry said the decision to revoke the diplomats’ accreditation on Thursday was due to a “a flurry of recent anti-Israel and unilateral steps taken the government of Norway”.
Norway was one of the European countries that recognised a Palestinian state in May, alongside Spain and Ireland.
