The US and UK have implied they could take military action against the Houthi Rebels after the Yemen-based group launched its biggest attack in the Red Sea to date.

A joint US and UK naval task force said they shot down around 21 drones and missiles overnight on Tuesday.

The Houthis claim that they “targeted an American ship that was providing support to the Zionist entity”.

It was the 26th attack on commercial ships in the Red Sea since 19 November as they seek to support Hamas in their war against Israel.

The UN Security Council demanded an immediate halt to attacks by the militant group in a resolution passed on Wednesday.

HMS Diamond shot down seven Houthi drones using Sea Viper missiles, each costing more than £1m ($1.3m).

The Houthi Rebels claim they are only attacking ships linked to Israel or heading to Israeli ports.

UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps warned against further attacks saying, “we will take the action needed to protect innocent lives and the global economy”.
