Travel News: Air Travel Delays, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, and American Queen Voyages

It was a difficult weekend for U.S. air travel with over 4,500 flights being canceled. Sever storms on the East Coast of the U.S. are the main cause of cancelations. Regional airlines were hardest hit however many of the larger airlines were also affected including United Airlines canceling 4% of their flights, American Airlines canceled 6%, Delta canceled 3% and southwest canceled 5% of their flights. While weather cancelations are common airlines have been struggling with staffing shortages and have been unable to respond as quickly as they had in years past.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has recently updated their vaccination and testing protocols across their three cruise brands, Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania, and Regent. The update does away with the pre-embarkation testing requirement for fully vaccinated travelers. This update also allows unvaccinated travelers to sail on one the Norwegian brands provided they have a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure. These updated rules only apply to sailings that leave from and stop at ports who's rules do not require vaccinations or testing. Unvaccinated travelers will not be allowed on sailings that either visit or leave from Bermuda, Canada, or Greece.

American Queen Voyages has recently announced their longest itinerary in the companies history. The "Grand Ohio & Upper Mississippi Rivers" cruise is a 23 day experience. Guests on this journey will board the American Countess on July 24, 2023 as they leave from Minneapolis on a journey to Pittsburgh. The trip will follow a 1,772 mile route, passing through a total of 10 different states. A few notable stops include La Crosse, Wisconsin; Hannibal, Missouri; Louisville, Kentucky; Madison, Indiana; Cincinnati, Ohio, Point Pleasant, West Virginia; and many more. Fares start at $7,197 per person.
