The Rockefeller Center in New York City puts a large evergreen tree on display around the holidays each year. This year, they chose a Norway spruce (Picea abies) that was 85 years old, 80’ tall, and weighed 12 tons! This was the 42nd year in a row that a Norway spruce was chosen for the gig. After the tree is taken down in January, the wood is milled and used to build houses via Habitat for Humanity (@habitatforhumanity, @rockefellercenter).
