Meta introduces a paid ad-free option for Facebook and Instagram users in Europe. The move aims to comply with stringent European data privacy regulations. Starting in November, desktop users can opt for the ad-free experience at around 10 euros per month. iOS and Android users will pay approximately 13 euros, including app store commissions. The fee covers all linked Facebook and Instagram accounts until March. From March, Meta will charge an additional 6 euros for each extra account. The decision comes after a European court ruled that Meta must obtain user consent before displaying ads. This ruling challenges Meta's ad-tailoring model, which relies on user data. Meta emphasizes its commitment to respecting European data regulations while offering user choice. Users over 18 in EU countries, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein can choose between ad-supported or ad-free Facebook and Instagram.
