A video of a man riding an electric kick scooter on the roads of Taipei has incited much debate online regarding what the rules are for these vehicles. Should you ride them on the road? Or on the pavement? The answer is neither of the two.
Electric kick scooters cannot be ridden on any public thoroughfares. That means, no riding on roads, streets, sidewalks, cycle paths or alleys among others. The only areas allowed are private land or areas cut off from traffic such as parks and sports fields. Violators can face fines of up to NT$3,600.
