A beluga whale nicknamed Hvaldimir, first spotted in Norway wearing a harness that prompted rumors he might be a Russian spy whale, has tragically passed away. Over the years, the beluga whale was seen in the waters off several Norwegian coastal towns and it quickly became clear that Hvladimir was very tame accustomed to people and would often seek them out for food, attention, and play. Unfortunately, it is very likely that this is what caused his tale to come to a tragic end as he was reportedly seen in good condition recently, leading me to suspect that he was either struck by a ship or ingested a foreign object. They will conduct a necropsy on Hvladimir to find the cause.
