Russia just opened fire at a Norwegian fishing boat in Norway’s own waters. The fishing boat was in the Arctic Ocean, in Norway’s own exclusive economic zone, when a Russian warship fired upon it. The men were fishing when they were called on the radio by the Russian warship who said: “This is a Russian Warship, you need to leave the area”. And the men replied “No. We have to fish.” The warship then barreled towards them, blowing its horn, and then firing near the ship. The men say that it was a powerful blast that shook the whole boat and then they left the area. This occurred during a joint Russian-Chinese naval exercise that occurred in Norway’s EEZ. It has sparked a lot of anger as to why the Norwegian Navy isn’t stopping Russia from closing fishing areas. Two years ago, Irish fishermen had a showdown with Russian warships and they ultimately won.
