Putin Confirms Wagner's Prigozhin Dead, Cites "Complex" Fate; Kyiv Gets Norway F-16s, "Raids" Crimea

Vladimir Putin has confirmed Yevgeny Prigozhin’s death, calling the Wagner chief a “talented businessman” with “a difficult fate”. The Russian President said that he had known Prigozhin since the early 1990s. He said that Prigozhin had returned to Russia from Africa on Aug. 23 and had met with “some officials”. Meanwhile, Ukrainian Intelligence forces claim to have conducted a raid in Crimea with the help of the navy. Ukraine’s GUR intelligence agency released a video of the operation, showing the purported overnight raid. For a second day in a row, Russia scrambled a jet to intercept a Norwegian P-8A plane over the Barents Sea. Russia reported a similar incident over the Barents Sea on Aug. 23, when a Poseidon R-8A aircraft approached its border. Norway has also decided to donate combat aircraft to Ukraine, the Norwegian PM Jonas Store said in Kyiv. Zelensky said that the announcement of Norwegian contribution was the best news on Ukraine’s Independence day. Poland has said that the Wagner Group will become an even bigger threat following the presumed death of its boss Yevgeny Prigozhin. Polish PM Mateusz Morawiecki said the Group will become a bigger threat now that it is likely to come under the control of Putin.
