A group of swimmers in B.C. had a surprising encounter recently with a pod of orcas swimming close to shore off the coast of Quadra Island.
The group of orcas are part of the T090 pod, which is a family of well-known whales in the region. They're said to have been spending a fair amount of time hunting harbour seals in the Salish Sea and have been seen as far north as Alaska.
While the orcas have been known to show curiousity for swimmers, people are still being reminded to keep their distance if they do see whales.
