The Norwegian-owned ship Silver Dania, which was detained in Tromsø, Norway, for investigation into suspected involvement in the damage of an underwater fibre optic cable between Latvia and Sweden’s Gotland island, has been released after no evidence was found linking it to the incident. Norwegian police, acting on a request from Latvian authorities, had initially detained the ship on Thursday, but after further investigation, authorities concluded there was no cause to hold the vessel. The ship's owner, SilverSea, denied any involvement in the cable damage and provided tracking data to support their claim. Damage to the cable was discovered on Sunday, and Swedish prosecutors opened a preliminary investigation into the incident. A separate vessel, the Vezhen, remains under investigation for potential sabotage.
