Norway Chess 2024, a thrilling turn of events, GM Hikaru Nakamura came closer to leader GM Magnus Carlsen by winning an intense armageddon game on time. World Champion Ding Liren stopped his losing streak by drawing against GM Praggnanandhaa Ramesh-babu, but lost in the armageddon. GM Fabiano Caruana’s daring knight sacrifice against GM Alireza Firouzja nearly backfired but he managed to draw however still lost overall in the armageddon decider.

On the women’s side, GM Anna Muzychuk became sole leader in Women’s Norway Chess. She defeated Women’s World Champion Ju Wenjun. Unfortunately GM Vaishali Ramesh-babu’s title aspirations took a hit as she lost in classical chess to GM Koneru Humpy. Meanwhile GM Lei Tingjie triumphed over GM Pia Cramling in an armageddon battle.
