NATO scientists are dissecting sound waves in the icy waters of the Arctic, to improve the Western military alliance’s ability to track Russian submarines. NATO scientists and engineers in the Norwegian port of Tromsø have started two research missions to assess the impact of climate change in the Arctic. Experts say these findings hold strategic value when it comes to developing sonars capable of detecting enemy submarines. Meanwhile. Canada is also preparing a long-awaited Arctic strategy to respond to the growing threat posed by Russia and strengthen ties with northern NATO allies.
