Ireland, Spain and Norway said earlier this week that they would recognise a Palestinian state, which does not exist in practice. This prompted United States President Joe Biden to reiterate his belief that a Palestinian state should be achieved through negotiations, not unilateral recognition. Dr Simon Frankel Pratt, political science lecturer from the University of Melbourne, tells CNA’s Asia First that this reflects a growing dissatisfaction among Israel’s partners with the stagnated state of the peace process. Dr Pratt believes other European nations will recognise a Palestinian state and increase the diplomatic pressure on Israel.
