The Norwegian alphabet is based on the Latin alphabet. There are 29 letters in the Norwegian alphabet. This alphabet is often called the Danish-Norwegian alphabet because the two alphabets are almost the same.

Part I has letters A - R. Part II has the remaining letters including Æ,Ø,Å.

The letter Å has been used in the Norwegian alphabet since 1917 as a replacement for Aa. The final decision on the location of Å was not taken before 1955. It was first suggested that the letter come first in the alphabet, but this was not the case. Aa can still be found in old documents and is used if one does not have access to Å, for example, on an English keyboard.

The pronunciation of the final three letters in the Norwegian alphabet is very important so practice as much as you can!
