Recently, archaeologists in Denmark announced their discovery of the largest Viking hall found in the country in over a decade. The hall, which is thought to have belonged to a vassal of King Harald Bluetooth, was discovered while a house plot was being subdivided. The hall is around 40 meters long and 8-10 meters wide, with a roof supported by 10-12 oak posts. It is thought to have been a place for conducting agricultural activities, as well as a gathering place for political meetings and Viking guilds. The design of the hall is similar to King Bluetooth's ring castles and is thought to date back to the late 9th or early 11th century. Excavation of the second half of the hall is set to take place next year, and plans are in place to remove a section of turf for radiocarbon dating to more accurately determine the age of the building.
