The United States warned #Europe at the initial stages of a 1.1 billion dollar project. The project would ensure a supply of 40% of Europe’s natural gas imported from #Russia through a network of pipelines. They suggested that this step could go south as the Russians could use the energy supply as leverage over the region. But, since Russia was a neighboring country they thought it was a safe bet and ignored it.
Europe hasn’t been so efficient in terms of natural #gas production and consumption as the statistics show that in the year 2008 their natural gas output was 200.2 billion cubic meters and it declined over the years and in the year 2020, their natural gas output was 47.8 billion cubic meters. That is about a 75% drop in output. On the other hand, the continent consumed about 379 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the year 2020 alone.
This gives us a brief idea about how vulnerable Europe is at this point in terms of natural gas.
Now, with Russia filling 40% of it this could mean a dirty strategy could be at play.
No country is perfect, they have their highs and lows and so they trade. This could be differences in technology, in resources, then there are economic demands and sometimes it could be just to take benefits from different government policies across countries.
