A Ukrainian lawmaker on Friday (June 9) filmed himself next part of a destroyed roof and other debris which he said had washed up on the shore of Odesa after being carried by waters released by the breach of the Kakhovka dam.
In the video posted to Twitter, Oleksiy Goncharenko pointed to debris littering Odesa's Dolphin beach, and said it was part of the "catastrophe" resulting from the destruction of the dam in southern Ukraine, which he blamed on Russia.
The vast Soviet-era dam, under Russian control, burst in the early hours of Tuesday (June 2), unleashing floodwaters across a swathe of the war zone and endangering the lives and welfare of tens of thousands of people.
Both sides in the Ukraine war blame the other for the destruction of the dam, while some Russian-backed officials said that it might have collapsed from within.
Norwegian seismic research foundation Norsar said on Friday that data collected from regional seismic stations show clear signals of an explosion occurring at the Kakhovka dam.
Reuters was able to confirm the location in Goncharenko's video as Odesa by matching the buildings, rocks and pathway seen to file and satellite imagery of the area. Reuters was not able to independently confirm the date the video was filmed.
