Butte Commission approves multi million dollar tax break for Norwegian company

Butte commissioners give the green light on a major tax break for a Norwegian company looking to build at the local industrial park.

The Commission unanimously signed off on a 10-year 75% tax abatement on local mills for the company Cenate, which makes silicon materials for batteries.

The abatement is expected to save the company around $11 million over a decade.

“I do believe in the long-term gain for the community. It outweighs everything else right now, as far as our own tax abatement goes,” said District 2 Commissioner Michele Shea before offering the motion to approve the request.
