A dam in southern Norway partially burst after days of heavy rain that triggered flooding in the mountainous region and forced downstream communities to evacuate. Norway has evacuated more than 3,000 resident this week as rivers swelled to their highest levels in at least 50 years.
The Braskereidfoss power dam on the Glomma River, Norway's biggest waterway, was unable to open its hatches after its control room flooded. Innlandet county, one of Norway's worst-hit areas.
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration said Wednesday that all main roads between Oslo and Trondheim, Norway’s third-largest city, were closed. The weather system known as Storm Hans has battered parts of Scandinavia and the Baltics for several days, causing rivers to overflow, damaging roads and knocking down branches.
